ADREW D'ANGELO - sax alto, clarinetto basso

Andrew D'Angelo, sax contralto e clarinetto basso, nativo di Seattle, vive a Brooklyn, New York, dal 1986. Oltre a numerose collaborazioni con artisti come Trevor Dunn, Herb Robertson, Joel Frahm, Cuong Vu, Ed Schuller, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Dewey Redman, Lee Konitz, Bobby Previte, Jamie Saft, Chris Speed, Reid Anderson, Bill McHenry, Ben Monder, Mark Dresser, Ben Street, Laurie Frink, Erik Freidlander, Drew Gress, Jeff Ballard, Andrew D'Angelo è molto attivo nella scena dell'avanguardia con propri gruppi, tra cui il trio "Morthana", che ha formato coi musicisti norvegesi Anders Hana e Morten Olsen, una band che ha inciso tre cd e si è esibita in numerosi festivals, e il trio TYFT, comprendente il chitarrista islandese Hilmar Jensson e Jim Black, con ha inciso due cd ed effettuato tours negli USA e nel Nord Europa. Andrew D'Angelo collabora inoltre con il quartetto di Matt Wilson, col quale ha partecipato all'incisione di quattro dischi, ed è molto attivo anche nel settore didattico, tenendo con il suo trio seminari e master classes in tutto il mondo. Tra le sue numerose attività Andrew D'Angelo annovera la composizione, in particolare per Reykjavik Big Band, con cui ha compiuto tours negli USA e in Nord Europa, si occupa di installazioni multimediali, che includono suoi dipinti a olio e sculture di luce da lui ideate, e ha anche messo su in Norvegia un festival per giovani artisti denominato C-Minus.

Andrew d'Angelo (Alto Saxophone, Bass Clarinet, Computer, Composition) has lived in Brooklyn, New York since 1986 but is a Seattle native. He toured Europe and Scandinavia this spring 2005 with his trio, which includes Norwegian musicians Anders Hana and Morten Olsen. That trio recorded their 3rd cd (August 2004) which is currently out on the Norwegian based label Jazzaway. After their tour of Eruope this same trio, known as MORTHANA, recorded their 4th cd for a Japanese based label called Doubtmusic. That recording will be released fall 2005 and features drummer Mike Pride as a special guest. His trio was also featured at the Ballard Jazz Festival in Seattle, Washington. He is also releasing a solo bass clarinet cd including works by himself, Michael Rose, Stephan Larose, and Nissim Schaul. He also works and tours with the great Matt Wilson Quartet. A group which he has performed with for the last 10 years. The quartet will be touring in Brazil, Columbia, Argentina, and Mexico this winter 2005. They have four cds available on the Palmetto recording label. Also, this summer 2005, he was in Iceland for a month doing a residency there with guitarist Hilmar Jensson. While on this residency he performed gigs in Iceland as well as recorded his third cd with a group called TYFT. That cd will be available this winter 2005. The trio TYFT is Jim Black, Hilmar, and Andrew.
In November 2004, he was invited to Portugal for two weeks to perform 9 concerts and 6 days of workshops at the GUIMAR?ES Jazz Festival with the Matt Wilson Quartet. Last winter he was also in St.Petersburg, Russia to create an art installation with Kitchen Motors of Iceland at a museum there. He was also busy this past year performing, recording and touring with TYFT. He also just recorded a solo bass clarinet film soundtrack for a film to be featured at the Sundance Film Festival. The trio TYFT was featured at the Iceland Jazz festival in November 2004 and also toured the midwestern and eastern United States, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark this spring 2005. This trio has just released their second cd, Ditty Blei (Songlines), and also performs numerous clinics, master classes and workshops where ever they go. Mr. d'Angelo has performed workshops at several Universities, Colleges, and Conservatories. Some of the most recent locations are the Svithun School for the Arts (Stavanger), Amsterdam Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, FIH Music College Reykjavik (Iceland), University of Northern Illinois, Wichita State University, George Washington University, the Taft School of Connecticut, the University of Rhode Island, Brookline High School, Trondheim Musikhogskola, Kungliga Musikhogskolan i Stockholm, G嗾eborg Musikhogskola, Rytmisk Conservatorium in Copenhagen, Ingesund Musikhogskola, Odense Musikhogskola, Wichita State University, North Texas State University, Nordic Heritage Museum of Ballard. Mr. d'Angelo also writes music for big band, chamber groups, string orchestra, soloists, and has recently performed some of his larger compositions with the Reykjavik Big Band and throughout the US, Europe, and Scandinavia. As well as doing teaching residencies Mr. d'Angelo put on his own festival in Norway for young artists. This festival was known as "C-Minus" and featured 40 of Norways most exciting and talented young artists. He has been asked to repeat this festival annually there in Norway.

He has worked with what seems like a vast array of fantastic artists and musicians.
